INTRO TO MINDFULNESS
Welcome to a 6 week journey into the power of Mindfulness, a basic human trait we all possess and can develop for use in our day to day lives to make more skillful choices. These six sessions were designed by clinicians as a basic introduction to the practices which help cultivate an ability to focus on the present moment without judgment.
Mindfulness practices have been validated by 1,000’s of studies which show an association with healthier stress responses, fewer depression relapses, improved pain management, increased focus, lower rates of burnout, improved relationships and quality of life. (See references)
All cultures have contemplative practices and this particular one called Insight Meditation was introduced to the U.S. in the 1970’s by Jon Kabat-Zinn Ph.D., a professor emeritus of medicine and creator of the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Practice, discussion, and homework develop the skills and audio recordings are available for additional support and guidance.

SESSION 1: What is Mindfulness
Using a Mindful Eating exercise to experience all senses in the present moment. Learning a full Body Scan to settle into the wisdom of our bodies and the connection with our minds.
SESSION 2: Be Right Where You Are
Learning how to mindfully listen. Being right here, right now. Mindfulness of Breathing as the basis for Insight Meditation.
SESSION 3: Our Storytelling Minds
A Mindful Walking Meditation. S.T.O.P. to identify stories and return to the present moment. Mindfulness of Sound as a grounding tool. Understanding labeling and judgment.
SESSION 4: Cultivating Kindness
Loving kindness for self and others. Using R.A.I.N. to work with difficult thoughts and emotions.
SESSION 5: Willingness to be with Things as They Are
Walking meditation with Loving Kindness for others and self. Exploring the quality of thoughts and feelings: Unpleasant-Neutral-Pleasant. Mindfulness of touch.
SESSION 6: Mindfulness of Breathing with Spaciousness
Moving forward with a personal practice. Mindfulness of Breathing with Spaciousness.
